Andrew Poaps, our much appreciated Music Director, began piano instruction at age 4 and later began formal voice lessons at age 8 under the tutelage of Carole- Anne Persall of Brantford, Ontario. Since then, music has continued to be an important part of Andrew’s life. He has been a member of many prestigious vocal ensembles including the Hamilton Children’s Choir under the direction of Zimfira Poloz and invited on tours with the group including to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Guangzhou, China. During the summer of 2017 Andrew was invited, along with 40 youth from across the province, to participate in the Ontario Youth Choir under the direction of Robert Cooper.
In 2013, Andrew was accepted to the undergraduate music program at McMaster University in Hamilton where he continued to study voice under the tutelage of Richard Cunningham. During this time he also sang with the McMaster University Choir under the direction of Dr. Rachel Rensink- Hoff. Andrew graduated the McMaster music program with a Honours Bachelor of Music degree in June of 2017. Andrew is currently attending teacher’s college at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario.
Andrew is currently Director of Music at Trinity United Church in Beamsville where he enjoys conducting a church choir, playing the organ and piano, and encouraging musicians young and old to share their talents with the community. Andrew also serves as an accompanist for the Beamsville Andante Celtic Singers. Alongside piano lessons, Andrew began to study the pipe organ in 2010 and later held his first organist position at St. Giles United Church in Hamilton in Fall of 2012. And is currently pursing his passion for teacher while serving as a voice and piano teacher at both Performance School of Music and Dance in Burlington and Progressive Music Studio in Cayuga.
